About

To deliver the ambitions of the Climate Emergency Strategy and the aspirations outlined in the Climate and Ecological Vision, we must understand our own emissions as a Council.

Somerset Council has committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Understanding our current emissions is a critical first step in achieving this goal, enabling us to identify where emissions arise, prioritise action, and track progress over time.

As 2023/24 was the first year of the unitary authority, this is our baseline footprint. All future progress will be measured against this baseline.

In the baseline year of 2023/24, we calculated a full carbon footprint of 230,928 tCO₂e, with the majority arising from Scope 3 sources.
