Back to all Children's (including The Local Offer) events

Description

This session will give parents the clarity and tools to become informed advocates and valued partners in their child’s educational journey. With a focus on positivity, collaboration, and practical steps, you’ll gain confidence to navigate Special Educational Needs (SEN) discussions, strengthening your relationship with the school.

What you’ll explore:
What Special Educational Needs (SEN) means and looks like including breakdown of ‘the graduated response’ to Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Understanding school roles: who to approach and when.
Reasonable adjustments that make a difference—and how to request them.
How to ‘organise your thinking’ around Special Educational Needs (SEN) so that you bring focussed and clear information to a discussion.
Key questions to ask in Special Educational Needs (SEN) discussions to spark conversations and actions that support your child or young person.
What you should expect from a meeting—and how to follow up effectively.

These sessions are open to all parent carers in Somerset who have a child with additional needs and/or a disability.
