About the event
Does your child or young person find Christmas and other festive celebrations overwhelming rather than enjoyable?
While the festive season can be a time of excitement and celebration, for many autistic children and young people it can also bring significant challenges. Changes to routines, busy environments, sensory overload, increased social demands, and heightened expectations can all contribute to stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm.
In this workshop, we will:
Understand why festive periods can increase stress and anxiety for autistic children and young people.
How routine changes affect regulation and wellbeing.
Practical ways to increase predictability and reduce uncertainty.
How sensory challenges such as lights, noise, crowds, food, and travel can impact participation.
The effect of social expectations and family pressures.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll understand the challenges Christmas can bring and gain practical ways to help your child enjoy a calmer, more positive festive season.
