About the event

Many neurodivergent children and young people work hard to hide their differences in order to fit in with the expectations of others. Known as masking, this can be mentally and emotionally exhausting, often contributing to increased anxiety, low mood, burnout, and difficulties with wellbeing.

This informative and supportive workshop explores why masking happens, how it impacts mental health, and how parents can recognise the signs that a child may be struggling beneath the surface. We will also explore the differences between everyday feelings of sadness and anxiety and when these emotions may indicate a more significant mental health concern.

Designed for parents and carers, this workshop provides practical tools to support emotional wellbeing, build self-acceptance, and create environments where children feel safe to be themselves.

In this workshop, we will:
Common signs that a child may be masking their difficulties.
The emotional impact of long-term masking, including stress, anxiety, burnout, and low mood.
The differences between typical feelings of sadness or worry and clinical anxiety or depression.
Practical approaches to promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing.
