About the event

Does your child become overwhelmed by everyday expectations, resist requests, or appear driven by a strong need to stay in control?

For children with an Extreme Demand Avoidant profile, even ordinary demands can create intense feelings of anxiety and loss of control. What may look like refusal, avoidance, or oppositional behaviour is often a response to overwhelming stress rather than a deliberate choice.

This practical and compassionate workshop helps parent carers understand the underlying reasons behind demand avoidance and explore approaches that reduce anxiety, build trust, and support engagement. Through a neuro-affirming lens, we will look beyond behaviour to better understand what your child is communicating and how you can create an environment where they feel safe, understood, and able to participate.

This workshop will consider:
What do we mean by extreme demand avoidance?
What are demands?
How extreme Demand Avoidance can present itself.
Tips for dealing with avoidance behaviours.
