About the event

Alexithymia is a difference in emotional processing that can make it difficult to identify, describe, and express emotions. Often described as “emotion blindness,” it can affect communication, emotional regulation, relationships, and mental wellbeing. While commonly experienced by autistic individuals, alexithymia can affect people of all ages.

This informative and practical workshop explores alexithymia and its impact on everyday life. Through a neurodiversity-affirming approach, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how emotional awareness develops, why some individuals find emotions difficult to identify, and how supportive environments can make a significant difference.

In this workshop, we will explore:
What alexithymia is and how it presents.
How alexithymia affects emotional awareness, communication, and self-understanding.
The links between alexithymia, anxiety, wellbeing, and mental health.
Why emotional regulation can be more challenging when emotions are difficult to recognise.
Practical approaches to support emotional understanding and expression.
