About the event

Social communication is about much more than talking. It involves how we share attention, understand language, interpret other people’s thoughts and feelings, and express our own needs and ideas. Neurodivergent children and young people often communicate differently, and these differences can sometimes be misunderstood by others.

This practical and parent-focused workshop explores how social communication develops and how neurodivergent communication styles may present in everyday life. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of your child’s communication profile and leave with realistic, easy-to-apply tips that can help reduce frustration, strengthen connections, and support your child’s confidence.

In this workshop, we will:
The three key areas of social communication: joint attention, language, and perspective-taking.
How neurodivergent children may process and communicate information differently.
The role of communication styles such as hyper-focus, monotropism, and information-sharing (“info-dumping”).
