About the event
Communication is about much more than spoken language. It includes understanding information, expressing needs and feelings, interpreting social situations, using non-verbal communication, and making sense of the world around us. Neurodivergent, Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities children and young people often communicate in different ways, and these differences can sometimes lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and unmet needs.
This practical and supportive workshop explores how children process, understand, and express information differently. Through a neuro-affirming approach, parents and carers will gain a deeper understanding of communication differences and learn effective ways to reduce communication pressure, build understanding, and support meaningful connection.
We will explore:
How communication involves much more than spoken words.
How neurodivergent and Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities children may process and understand information differently.
Common communication differences in autistic children, children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, speech and language needs, and other Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities profiles.
