Access Gough’s Cave is easily accessible from the road. There is a loading bay directly outside the entrance. There are two steps to get down into the cave and the a flight of steps halfway into the cave to access the two most beautiful chambers. The cave is 0.25 miles long. While the main part of the show cave is clearly for public access, with concrete floors etc, at the back of the cave there are areas that can be used for filming that have been left more natural. Although access to these areas is trickier.
Access restrictions The caves are a popular tourist attraction and open to the public everyday between 10am and 5pm. Access is to be negotiated and dependent on scale and disruption. Likely to be difficult during school holidays/peak seasons, during opening times, but small scale filming is allowed while the caves are open, and is possible before and after opening times if preferred.
Noise No
Parking There are hundreds of parking spaces in car parks near the caves, stretching up the gorge. There is a coach park near the cave that can accommodate larger vehicles used in film sets.
Parking detail The parking is owned and operated by the Longleat Estate and is chargeable. It is open to the general public, but areas can be cordoned off for filming use.
