Description

A privately owned Elizabethan manor house dating from Domesday, set in a working forestry estate (see separate listing). It is an area of lakes and waterways with good forest access tracks.

The main house is a family home but offers one or two rooms with large medieval stone fireplaces and original windows. There is a remarkable replica pre-Reformation dining room, and Victorian staircase and rooms elsewhere. The exterior of the building is very atmospheric. The garden is walled and divided into several different yew hedge ‘rooms’. These are relatively low-key but include formal Victorian yew and box hedges. The house sits in Park land with a mature ornamental tree nursery and is fronted by an impressive Gatehouse to a once fortified farmstead.

The site also includes a working saw mill (see separate listing), a Lodge-like reception building, as well as various farm buildings, remnants of a hamlet and ruins.
