Description
1865 Grade II listed detached building in a prominent location within the conservation area, originally housing the Frome Literary and Scientific Institution. All original external features. Three-storey ashlar built wedge-shaped building on sloping site. Rounded corner facing Market Place has original double doors to main entrance lobby with accessible historic spiral cantilever staircase rising three floors. Two ground floor museum galleries, plus library and archive room and museum store. Stone-vaulted basement lockups beneath, some of which are used for additional storage and some let out to tenants. Rooms on upper floors mostly let by the museum to local artists and small businesses.
