- The official place of work is County Hall in Taunton, but our team work mostly from home with regular office days.
- 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)
- This role is for 37 hours per week.
- This role is a fixed term contract until 31st March 2026 (with the possibility of extension)

- This role involves working with officers up to head of service level and providing crucial administrative support for several teams, thereby offering a wealth of experience. You will be based within a team that is supportive and friendly and works together to enable cover for leave.
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As a Senior Business Support Assistant, you will be providing administrative support to teams within both the Economic Development, Skills & Climate service area and the Infrastructure & Transport service area.
Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Diary and selected inbox support for the Head of Highways and/or the Head of Service Transportation
- Full meeting support, including minutes, for various contract meetings between Highways and external partners, including scheduling within the recognised governance framework
- Support for the H&T Duty Info and Highways Flood Gate inboxes
- Inbox support for the Flood and Coastal Management team
- Annual coordination of the Highways Emergency & Adverse Weather Plan document, including distribution of the seasonal email
- Booking training and other events across I&T and EDSC, and maintaining SWQR training records for the I&T service area
- General administrative support, incl. task allocation for two Grade 15 colleagues

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:
- 5 GCSE’s/ NVQ Level 3 standard or equivalent, including Maths and English.
- Confidence in minute taking, with previous experience of meeting support.
- Proven experience in using Outlook to manage multiple inboxes, arrange meetings and manage calendars.
- Proven experience in using Word as a document creation tool and work confidently with PDFs.
- The ability to prioritise conflicting work demands and deadlines.
- The ability to work productively and unaided from home.
