What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people here in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that.
We are looking for an exceptional individual for a vacancy in the Environmental Health & Licensing Support Team. The team provides administrative support and is the first point of contact with our customers.
You would be joining a busy team who deal with a wide range of statutory services, licenses, permits, complaints and enquiries across all areas such as taxis, events, housing, food & safety, public health and neighbour nuisance.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Manage a range of incoming work streams both internally and externally and ensure you accurately update essential databases (Civica & Assure).
- Communicate with customers over the phone, by email and by letter.
- Process a range of applications and deal with statutory consultations.
- Be responsible for the creation of new customers, purchase orders and the management of payments and refunds for the service.

- An ability to be highly organised and self-motivated.
- Reliability and a willingness to take on new tasks and learn new skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
- Meticulous working with a strong drive for accuracy.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word and SharePoint.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential. You will need to be organised, self-motivated, with a strong customer focus, but also a good team player. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate an adaptable and flexible approach, a can-do attitude and an ability to work on your own initiative.
