About the job

Some key information

  • Office base will be County Hall, Taunton, however the role will be hybrid and once fully trained you can work from home, but will be expected to attend County Hall when required. The team operates a rota system and therefore the office hours range from a start time of 7.30am – a finish time of 5pm. The rota changes every week, with some days being on a earlier start or later finish and other days offering more flexibility with the core hours.
  • 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
  • 25 days annual leave, increasing to 28 days after 5 years continuous service.
  • Regretfully, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. We are only able to proceed with candidates who already have the right to work in the UK without the need for visa sponsorship.

What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

  • Covering for any members of the team who are absent, taking over their area of responsibility including managing the health inbox and inputting or scheduling trips for a specific service area.
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure key information is communicated quickly and correctly. Communicating with requesters to gather information and deal with discrepancies.
  • When not covering other roles you will be required to help colleagues as directed by the team managers, this will include assisting with Social Care or Health inputting, putting out and closing tenders or assisting with scheduling trips.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with colleagues and transport requesters, more often via email. However the postholder will be expected to answer and make calls when required.
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage conflicting demands.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Be a competent user of IT, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply.
