What will I be doing?

The Head of Property will provide strategic leadership and professional expertise to drive the performance and continuous improvement of the Council’s property function. The role is responsible for developing and delivering property strategies and service plans, leading and managing the property team, and ensuring services are delivered efficiently, to budget and to required quality standards. The post holder will advise Members and Directors on operational planning, policy and service delivery matters, manage complex operational issues, and optimise the use of financial and property assets to support the Council’s priorities and transformation programmes.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you already have:

  • Significant senior management experience leading a property or estates service, with responsibility for performance, service improvement and delivery against organisational priorities.
  • Proven experience of developing and delivering property strategies and service plans, including prioritising and managing complex programmes of work and change.
  • Strong financial and commercial experience, including managing budgets, optimising the use of assets and resources, and delivering services to time, cost and quality standards.
  • Experience of advising Members and senior officers on operational planning, policy and service delivery issues, and working effectively with a wide range of internal and external partners.
  • Professional property qualification and background, with the ability to ensure the Council meets its statutory, regulatory and governance responsibilities in relation to property.
  • Leadership and people management experience, including leading managers and staff through change, resolving complex operational issues and driving continuous improvement
