About the job

Some key information

• Location: Somerset
• Salary: £78, 168 Somerset Grade 5 (Head of Service)
• 33 days’ annual leave
• Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
At Somerset Council, we are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join our team in a dual role as Head of Service Fostering & Kinship and Deputy Director of Care role with Homes2Inspire. This is a unique opportunity to lead and innovate within our fostering and kinship services while also overseeing the strategic management of our children’s homes, high needs fostering households and integrated therapeutic education service.
Given the cross over and joint responsibilities within these roles to work across children’s social care and more widely within Somerset Council, Homes & Horizon’s Partnership and the Shaw Trust, we envisage one person jointly covering both of our Head of Service post leading our kinship and fostering services and the Homes and Horizon’s Partnership, through a matrix management approach. This would be through a Somerset Council contract, and then a secondment to Shaw Trust to cover the role leading on our innovative Homes and Horizon’s Partnership.

What will I be doing?

As the Head of Service Fostering & Kinship and Deputy Director of Care, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our services. You will ensure that children and young people in care receive the highest quality of support and nurturing placements. Additionally, you will oversee the Somerset Strategic Partnership, managing multiple registered children’s homes and fostering households, and supporting a therapeutic education service. Your day-to-day work will involve:
• Inspire and lead fostering and kinship services, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice standards.
• Provide visionary leadership and direction to teams of social workers, family and child practitioners, and support staff to drive change, ensure financial sustainability and growth within the business and service, so we can provide caring homes for children in Somerset.
• Lead the mobilisation of new services with Homes2Inspire, ensuring timely and budget-compliant implementation, alongside Collaborating with other agencies, stakeholders, and community partners to create a cohesive and supportive network.
