• This role provides the opportunity for hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home, subject to managerial approval, or from one of our offices.
• 30 days' annual leave (in addition to bank holidays).
• The contract offered is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week).
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. As an Enforcement and Coordination officer you will ensure compliance with Network Management Duty through effective co-ordination and monitoring of road and street works on the Somerset Network within a given area.
Your day-to-day work will involve:
• Managing the day-to-day Street works register to ensure compliance with Section 53 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA)
• Ensuring that all who undertake work within Somerset do so compliantly as per the requirements of the Somerset Council Permit Scheme
• Where there has been non-compliance with NRSWA or the Somerset Council Permit Scheme, gather, liaise and provide information to our legal team for potential prosecution cases, and support by attending court if required.
• Ensure the effective processing of the Street works permit applications and to provide cover for colleagues in other areas.
• Ensure that the team is correctly trained so working in line with best Streetworks regulatory practices and the relevant code of practices.
• Ensuring that defects reported to the department are acted upon in conjunction with their severity and implement a remedial timescale to ensure that the public are safeguarded in their daily travel, and to ensure compliance with the duty of care implied on Somerset Council.
• Attend site visits as required by the role to support the team.
Please note, this role does require regular travel to sites throughout Somerset.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:
• Have good standards or numeracy, literacy and ICT capability.
• Can demonstrate knowledge of New Road & Street Works legislation, and the Traffic Management Act.
• Have previous experience in Highways, Statutory Undertaker, or the Street works environment.
• Have some enforcement experience, or legal experience in dealing with Streetworks issues, or the willingness to build upon existing skills.
