What will I be doing?

Supported by our parish, town and city council partners, Somerset Council provides a comprehensive CCTV monitoring service across our county, ensuring the safety and security of communities within it. Through our dedicated, professional team, we monitor cameras 24 hours a day, working with the Police to ensure timely responses to any incidents or emergencies.

As a CCTV Operator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety of our towns and city by monitoring and analysing CCTV footage. You will be responsible for identifying and responding to potential security threats, working with the Police to ensure a swift and effective resolution to incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor live and recorded CCTV footage to identify suspicious activities.
  • Respond promptly to police requests and incidents, following established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, actions taken, and outcomes.
  • Co-ordinate with the Police and emergency services as necessary.
  • Ensure all CCTV equipment is functioning correctly and report any malfunctions.
  • Adhere to legal and organisational policies regarding the use of CCTV systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of incident reports for internal use and client reference.
  • Provide thorough evidence packs to the police.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

  • Previous experience in a CCTV monitoring or security role is preferred.
  • Strong observational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • The ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic understanding of CCTV technology and security protocols.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
