Some key information
- The role mainly covers the southern half of Somerset but travel across the whole County may be necessary.
- The role provides the opportunity for hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home or from one of our offices within the southern half of Somerset. Team days are a minimum of once a fortnight in County Hall.
- 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
- The Contract offered is permanent and full-time - 37 hours per week.
What will I be doing?
We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Planning, co-ordinating, procuring and managing projects on bridges and structures across the rights of way network in Somerset, mainly focused in the southern half of the County, but with possible involvement in assets and projects across the whole of Somerset.
- Daily contact with landowners/tenants/agents and other interested parties like the Environment Agency, ecologists, heritage organisations and utility companies.
- Assisting with the inspection programme of bridges and structures on the rights of way network in Somerset.
- Organising legal changes to the rights of way network under the Highways Act and assist with changes under the Town and County Planning Act.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:
- Have an HND level or equivalent in Countryside Management or related subject.
- Knowledge of bridges/structures construction and maintenance techniques.
- Experience of managing projects and site supervision.
- Experience of negotiating with multiple parties.
- Experience of working in an outdoor environment and be able to lone work, often in remote areas.
- Have a good understanding of working over/in/near water and the permitting systems for project work.
- Ability to travel regularly across Somerset, often to remote areas.
