You will also work closely with families, providing one-to-one support and strategies to empower parents and carers. You will work with early years settings and schools to support transition.
Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Gathering information from new referrals of young people with autism to produce a record and plan support to be implemented to ensure the best possible outcomes for the young person and their families.
- Supporting young people with autism with their communication, e.g. Create symbol resources, and ensure their voices are heard.
- Working in partnership with other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for the young people and attend and contribute to various meetings. This will include Team Around the Child meetings and some support within educational settings helping smooth transition between home and school.
- Providing targeted autism telephone and support and advice to families and education settings through specialist call backs.
- Providing one to one work within the family home to empower parents/carers with suggestions and strategies for their young people. This will include home visits to suit the specific needs of the family.
