- The primary work location is County Hall, Taunton with opportunities for remote work as agreed with management.
- 30 days annual leave (additional to Bank Holidays)
- Regular travel within the county is required for meetings, site visits and community engagement activities.
- Full time, 37 hours a week.
What will I be doing?
As a Traffic Engineering Technician, you will provide technical support and expertise to traffic engineers and project managers in the delivery and management of traffic and highway related schemes and projects. You will be contributing to a safer, more efficient, and sustainable transport infrastructure.
We’re working to improve the lives of people here in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
- Giving technical advice on traffic management issues, including technical explanations of programmes and advice on the delivery of schemes.
- Providing regular updates on the status of planned works, to the Parking Team and wider Traffic Management Team.
- Assisting the Traffic Engineer in the identification, design, prioritisation and issuing of orders for improvements and defect repairs.
- Undertaking traffic design work which can compromise of onsite needs and designing of signage for road markings.
- Managing a programme of works for your designated area.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:
- Understand traffic regulations and highway legislation (e.g. Road Traffic Regulations Act, Traffic Signs Regulations, New Roads and Street Works Act)
- Have an understanding of parking enforcement principles and standards of enforceability.
- Have previous experience in a Highways/Traffic Management environment with an understanding of traffic engineering principles and practices.
- Have a HNC in Civil Engineering, or a similar field or significant relevant experience.
- A full UK Driver’s License is essential.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to act on your own initiative to include problem solving and decision making.
