Self-service equipment consists of self-service kiosks and security gates, which use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.
The touch-screen kiosks allow customers to borrow, renew and return books and other items. You can also use a kiosk to pay charges and to see if a reserved item is available. The majority of kiosks accept cash and give change. Chip and PIN credit and debit card options are also available.
Self-service is convenient, quick and easy to use and reduces queues at peak times. It frees up library staff to help with enquiries and to focus on customers who most need staff help.
Self-service technology is also used by our neighbours in the LibrariesWest consortium and many other authorities across the country.
To use self-service you need your library membership card and PIN (Personal Identification Number) to borrow or renew items.
You may already use your PIN to reserve or renew books online. If you don’t have a PIN, have forgotten it, or want to change it to something more memorable, you can:
