Sound walks
Encourage your child to engage with the natural world by going for a walk and talking about the different sounds natural objects make. From the crunch of leaves to the satisfying plop of a stone in a stream, it is a fun activity you can both enjoy!
In the image to the right you can see a child has kept some leaves and stones from their walk. They have used these items to inspire them to draw what they saw on paper, and write down the noises they heard.

Paper plant pots
You will need:
- A sheet of newspaper, or similar
- A clean, empty jar
- Moist compost
- Plant seeds

Step 1
- Take a sheet of newspaper and fold it in half lengthways.
- Leave a strip of about 3cm at the top.
- Fold this over.

Step 2
- Place the jar at the edge of your newspaper below the folded down strip
- Have the opening of the jar pointing up to the folded strip
- Roll the paper around the jar

Step 3
- Fold the excess paper over the top of the jar to create the bottom of the paper pot
- Press the jar down to secure the paper in place
- Slide the jar out from the paper

Step 4
- Store your pot in a tray
- Fill with moist compost ready for seeds to be planted
When your seedlings are ready to be planted out in the ground, plant the whole pot as the paper will compost down as the plant grows!
