As our Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) provision grows across Somerset, the Council are delighted that a third specialist school will be in operation within the next few years.  The Council won a bid for a third free school and identified Wells for this school.  The area around Wells and particularly to the North and Northeast of Wells is an area lacking in specialist provision but an area of need.

The Wells free school will again be a specialist school for children with identified Social and Emotional Mental Health Needs or Speech, Language and communication needs and though it will cater for a smaller number of pupils on site than Hill View, it is also expected to host a number of satellites on mainstream schools sites – such is the vision of the Local Authority to increase access to specialist resource in our rural areas.

The Local Authority are working with a Department for Education appointed company, Create Schools, to work through the pre-appointment phase of identifying a Trust to run the school.  On Friday 9th June an engagement event, co-hosted by the Local Authority and Create Schools, was held for Trusts and Trusts were asked to register their interest in applying to run the school by Friday 16th June.
