Motorists are being warned that the A358 near Hatch Beauchamp will remain closed in both directions until this afternoon (Thursday 15 Feb) for emergency repairs and resurfacing.

The works follow a collision yesterday and motorists will need to find alternative routes if planning to travel between Taunton and the Ilminster roundabout.

Somerset Council’s Highways Team reacted swiftly to the incident that took place on one of the county’s busiest routes at around 4pm yesterday.

They immediately put an emergency road closure in place and organised a clear up following a significant diesel spill.

The damage caused by the spill meant the team has also had to hastily arrange emergency repair work to a 60m stretch of both lanes. This will take place this morning and into the afternoon.
