Somerset Council has opened the A361 on the Levels today (Monday, 23 February), as the road is now clear of flood water.

The road had to be closed on Friday, 20 February after water levels had risen during the week following further rain on saturated ground, causing the spillway adjacent to it to top over on to the surface causing flooding.

The persistent wet weather and saturated ground on the moors and levels will mean that the situation is likely to remain changeable over the coming weeks, with further closures of the A361 Burrowbridge to East Lyng emergency road closure gate possible, until there is a prolonged dry period.

Residents are advised to check  their sat nav when travelling or for updates on the Travel Somerset Facebook page or the Roadworks and travel information page and plan carefully before setting out.

You can find out the status of roads that have Emergency road closure gates.

Do not drive through flood water or ignore road closed signs. More information about safety during floods on the road can be found on Somerset Road Safety’s Adverse weather conditions page.
