Following the incident on Thursday, 17 July, Somerset Council’s Highways Team has reopened the A396 between Wheddon Cross and Timberscombe.

Temporary measures have been put in place to reopen the road safely until permanent repairs to damage caused by the incident can be completed.

There are temporary traffic signals in place in the location of the damage with one lane closed whilst temporary barriers and fencing are in place around the affected area.

Due to the lane closure there is also a temporary speed limit in place of 20 mph on this stretch.

These measures will remain in place until further notice.

Police have asked for people not to leave flowers and tributes by the roadside.
