Children affected by parental offending can face challenges that are often unseen. Somerset Council is hosting a free awareness session to help professionals better understand and support Children Affected by Parental Offending (CAPO).
Delivered in partnership with Every Family, the session will explore the impact parental offending can have on children’s emotional wellbeing, relationships, education and day-to-day lives. It will also look at how services can identify and support children earlier and work together to improve outcomes.
The session will help participants:
- understand the impact of parental offending at different stages of the criminal justice process
- recognise the importance of identifying children affected by parental offending
- explore practical ways to support children and young people
- strengthen understanding of safeguarding as a shared responsibility across services
The training is particularly relevant for those working in education, children’s services, health, youth justice, policing and other safeguarding roles. This is a repeat of the session delivered in June.
