Charities from across Somerset have been hailed for their “massive contribution” to the wellbeing of the county at a special garden party organised by Somerset’s Lord-Lieutenant Mohammed Saddiq.
More than 150 people from charities across Somerset were invited to the event, held at a private house in East Somerset.
Mr Saddiq said:
Charities are the lifeblood of communities across Somerset. Day after day they bring people together, support those who need it most, and make our towns, villages, and neighbourhoods stronger, kinder places to live.
The dedication of volunteers and charitable organisations across the county is truly remarkable and their contribution to Somerset cannot be overstated. That is why we wanted to hold this party to say a big thank you.
Six organisations representing charities across the historic county of Somerset – Thrive, Spark, Somerset Community Foundation 3SG in Bath, Voluntary Action North Somerset, and the Quartet Community Foundation based in Bristol – were asked to nominate 20 volunteers from charities in their area.
Somerset’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant Robert Drewett, who helped organise the event, said:
Our inspiration came from the Buckingham Palace garden parties. We wanted to create something special as a way of thanking our wonderful volunteers for all the work they do.
