Somerset Council is laying on a shuttle bus service to support local communities in and around Draycott while the A371 is closed for essential gas mains work.
Wales and West Utilities is relaying the mains supply and will need to close the road while the work is carried out from 1 September to 11 October.
The shuttle bus service will make sure that residents will be able to get to schools and colleges, access healthcare and other essential services. The shuttles will align with the existing public transport network, linking Draycott to Wells and Cheddar.
Schools have already been made aware of the closure, and the Council will make sure parents are aware of pick-up times and routes for school transport.
The shuttle service will run from Draycott, via Rodney Stoke and Westbury-sub-Mendip to Wells with 10 buses per day; the shuttle from Draycott to Tweentown, Cheddar will operate six return services.
During the closure, the 126 bus serving the area will be diverted from Tweentown via Wedmore and on to Wells.
Although works will continue, the road will be accessible with traffic lights from Monday 28 September and the 126 will return to operating as normal through the area.
Both Wales and West and Somerset Council have engaged with local communities, businesses and stakeholders to raise awareness of the road closure and enable them to raise any issues.
