A new, 16-seat electric bus is taking to the streets of Frome to provide the town with the latest generation of passenger vehicles.

Somerset Council has launched its first public service electric bus with the 30 service in Frome. The vehicle is low floor, easily accessible, wheelchair friendly and comes with zero emissions.

The new vehicle complements the fleet of electric First buses already running on routes across the county.

It’s a lifeline for residents needing to reach town centre services and being electric, is more sustainable and less reliant on fossil fuels.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Waste Services, said:

Our electric bus is helping us cut our carbon footprint, while providing a smooth and comfortable ride for bus passengers.

I hope this will encourage more people to ‘bus it’ and swap a car journey for a bus trip.  Electric vehicles are proving popular in other areas where they have been introduced, and I am sure the new Somerset Council bus will be welcomed in Frome.
