Somerset Council is reminding parents, carers and those supporting families to submit applications for children starting or transferring school in September 2027 before the relevant deadline.

In particular, those applying for secondary and upper school places should note the imminent deadline of 31 October 2026.

The deadline for children starting school, or transferring to a junior or middle school, is 15 January 2027.

Submitting an application by the deadline gives families the best opportunity to secure a place at one of their preferred schools.

Cllr Heather Shearer, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Children, Families and Education, said:

We encourage families to note the deadlines, and to give themselves time to read the information and submit their application.

Choosing the right school for a child is one of the most important decisions a family will make. It can help shape a child’s educational journey and their future.

Application guidance, school catchment areas, and admissions policies are available on Somerset Council’s website.

Families are encouraged to review the information and complete their application online, as soon as possible.
