This July, Somerset Council’s road safety team want to help you drive safer for longer.
Somerset Road Safety are extending their help to drivers who may want to recapture some confidence on the roads, which can be a daunting place for mature road users. At 10am on Wednesday 5 July, the team will run a road safety awareness event until 12:30pm at the Wyvern Centre in Taunton.
The team has a driving simulator which can test reaction times and help drivers with their hazard perception – these are useful tools for younger and older drivers alike. The event is completely free of charge and hot drinks will be provided for those in attendance.
Some of the team’s partners like Avon and Somerset Police and Devon and Somerset Fire Service will be attending, along with representatives of the NHS and some local solicitors who can advise on wills.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital said: “Our road safety team go around Somerset and deliver many events for a diverse range of people throughout the year.
“This event is sure to provide an exciting insight into what they can provide for drivers; while this event is aimed at mature drivers, it is suitable for all so make sure you come along.”
Somerset Road Safety provides advice to thousands every year through educational events; they run Bikeability courses for school children and train School Crossing Patrols.
