The Department for Education has published a new set of free SEND and inclusion training materials to help schools and post-16 settings support staff development.

Developed by Ambition Institute, the materials are designed to build knowledge, confidence and understanding of inclusive practice. They include ready-made training content, facilitator guidance, practical strategies and activities that can be adapted for local use.

The training can be used during INSET days, staff meetings and wider professional development programmes, helping to reduce the time needed to create training materials from scratch.

The first set of resources covers:

  • SEND reforms and inclusive teaching
  • Areas of development
  • Speech, language and communication development
  • Guidance for leaders and facilitators

Additional training materials will be published throughout the academic year, including further areas of development, teaching resources, case studies and professional development materials.

These resources support Somerset’s wider focus on inclusion and helping children and young people get the right support at the right time.
