As colder weather and rising living costs continue to put pressure on households, organisations across Somerset are joining forces to help residents stay safe, warm and well this winter.

Public Health at Somerset Council, working in partnership with NHS Somerset, Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), Somerset Community Foundation (SCF), Citizens Advice Somerset, and other community partners, will host a Winter Wellness Webinar on Wednesday 5 November, 12:00-13:30.

The free online session will bring together professionals, volunteers and carers who support Somerset residents – particularly older or more vulnerable people – in any capacity, from health and care to housing, community services and the voluntary sector.

The event will explore practical ways to help people stay well this winter, including:

• Vaccinations and winter illness prevention
• Keeping warm and managing energy costs
• Emotional wellbeing and tackling loneliness
• Accessing food, money and essentials
• Preventing falls and staying active
• Planning for cold and extreme weather

Councillor Graham Oakes, Lead Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment said: “Winter can be an especially challenging time for many, particularly as energy prices and everyday costs remain high. This webinar is about working together across the system so that everyone who supports our communities knows what help is out there – and how to connect people quickly to the right support.”

Speakers from across Public Health Somerset, NHS Somerset, Civil Contingencies, Citizens Advice, CSE, SCF and local community organisations will share advice, tools and resources available across the county, with opportunities for questions and shared learning.
