Imagine the Possibilities is Somerset’s approach to supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) into employment.
The work brings together teams from Somerset Council, Sen.se and Specialist & Personalised Training Services (SPTS). Over the past five years, this partnership has developed 15 supported internship programmes across Somerset. This year alone, 101 young people are taking part.
Supported internships are year‑long, work‑based programmes where young people complete real tasks with local employers. The aim is to support young people with SEND into paid employment.
The offer has recently expanded to include pre‑supported internships for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC plan), a SEET programme for young people who need support to re‑engage, and new in‑work support for 18–25 year olds through the Connect to Work programme.
