Somerset Council’s Highways team is delivering an important maintenance scheme in Wellington this month.

Mantle Street through to Exeter Road, Rockwell Green is being fully resurfaced with preparation work taking place between 7 and 18 August, which will be carried out under temporary traffic signals during off-peak hours only, 9.30am to 3.30pm.

This will be followed by the main resurfacing works under a full day-time closure between 7.30am and 6pm from 18-23 August. The road will be open outside these hours and at the weekend.

The Council is undertaking these works during the summer holidays to avoid a term time clash with the nearby Court Fields School and daytime works were deemed less disruptive to the local residents.

The team has been contacting businesses and residents in the immediate area, including the local GP surgery, to ensure any disruption is minimised.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Digital said:

This road surface is showing significant signs of deterioration and it is vital that we carry out this work this summer.

During the summer holidays is the best time in terms of impact on traffic flow – we appreciate there will be some disruption, but our team has worked closely with businesses and residents to ensure everyone is fully informed and can plan ahead where necessary.
