Visitors can now explore more of Ham Hill, thanks to the arrival of a new off-road mobility scooter available for hire from the Ham Hill Visitor Centre.

Somerset Council’s team at Ham Hill are thrilled to be working in partnership with Disability Together to introduce a Tramper; an off-road mobility scooter, at Ham Hill, making it easier for people with limited mobility to explore and enjoy the site’s stunning landscapes, wildlife and heritage.

Designed for countryside trails and uneven terrain, the Tramper opens up greater access to Ham Hill, enabling more people to enjoy the outdoors and take part in walks, events, and shared experiences with family and friends.

Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, Lead Member for Public Health, Climate Change and Environment at Somerset Council, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Disability Together and Countryside Mobility to increase accessibility at Ham Hill.

“Everyone should have the opportunity to experience Somerset’s wonderful outdoor spaces, and the addition of the Tramper will help more people enjoy all that Ham Hill has to offer.”

The Tramper can be hired in two-hour sessions from Ham Hill Visitor Centre:

  • 9.30am to 11.30am
  • 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Hire costs £5 per session, payable on the day at the Visitor Centre.

To hire the Tramper, visitors must be members of the Countryside Mobility Scheme. Annual membership costs £15, and new users can sign up at the Visitor Centre when booking their first hire.

Being part of the Countryside Mobility Scheme enables members to hire Trampers across the country at a wide range of countryside and heritage settings.

Users must be able to operate the Tramper independently and be aged 14 or over. Young people aged 14 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children and animals cannot be carried on the vehicle.

Ham Hill Visitor Centre staff will provide an introduction to the Tramper before use and can advise on suitable routes around the site.
