Residents across the county are being encouraged to give volunteering with Somerset Council a go, as a new video shares the experiences of those already making a difference in their communities.

Somerset Council Volunteering supports more than 1,400 volunteers across 20 council services, giving people a wide range of ways to share their time and skills.

The new video puts volunteers at the heart of the story, sharing what inspired them to get involved, what they enjoy about their roles and what volunteering has given them in return.

It features volunteers from Ham Hill Country Park, the Volunteer Driver Service, Route1 Advocacy and the Home Library Service, showing the variety of opportunities available across Somerset.

Cllr Bill Revans, Leader of Somerset Council, said:

Our volunteers make such an important contribution to communities across Somerset and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gives their time.

This new video gives you the chance to hear directly from volunteers about why they get involved, the difference they make and what they get back from the experience.

There are so many different ways to volunteer. Whatever your interests, experience or the time you have available, I’d encourage you to take a look and see if there is an opportunity for you.

Rupert, a Volunteer Driver, said:

I volunteer because I enjoy meeting new people, not because they’ve all got a story to tell, but because actually, they all are a story.

It’s fulfilling, it’s rewarding and in an unselfish way, and I think that’s important.

From supporting young people and delivering library books, to driving residents to vital appointments and caring for Somerset’s countryside, there are many ways people can get involved.
