Time is running out for nominations for community awards from across Somerset that recognise groups and individuals for their commitment to others.

Somerset Council Chair’s Award honours those who give up their time to benefit their community – and the deadline for nomination is fast approaching with the deadline of 18 July.

Award recipients are nominated by their city, town and parish councils in recognition of their outstanding contribution.

The presentation ceremony will take place later this year.

Councillor Mike Best, Chair of the Council, said:

I hope we get a fantastic response this year as we have in the past.

My message to our city, town and parish councils is to send in nominations as soon as possible.

We are fortunate to have so many people in Somerset who work hard on behalf of others in their town, parish or city and the awards ceremony is a small way of saying thank you.

Our community heroes do so much for others, never expecting to be rewarded for their efforts and I look forward to reading the nominations.

Previous winners have included a wide range of groups and individuals – from litter-picking groups to parish councillors, volunteers and “good neighbours.”
