Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) last inspected the Somerset Local Area in 2020, so we are expecting another very soon.
They inspect how education, health and care services work together to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Somerset.
Local Area Partnerships are typically contacted by inspectors on a Monday morning to start the inspection process. Day-to-day support and activities continue as normal during an inspection, which lasts for around three weeks.
The inspection looks at services for children and young people aged 0 to 25.
In particular, inspectors will consider:
- The experiences of children, young people, and families.
- How well education, health and care services identify needs and work together.
- Whether support improves outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Ofsted and the CQC will publish a report after an inspection. It explains what is working well, where improvements are needed and what local services should do next.
Somerset Council, the NHS and other partners will use the findings to continue improving support for children and young people with SEND.
