A partial road closure in Church Street, Bridgwater, is due to come into effect on Monday 2 June as part of the town’s Celebration Mile roadworks.
The part-closure will also affect the eastern area of Eastover to allow Somerset Council’s contractors Taylor Woodrow to install new kerb lines and resurface pavements. The work is expected to be finished by the end of July.
A diversion route will be provided for residents of London Court with entry access available through the end of the bus route on Watsons Way. The exit will remain available via Church Street.
Public footways will remain accessible throughout the works and more businesses open as usual signage will be installed.
Letters advising of the works have gone out to affected premises, including traders and residents, providing contact details for anyone concerned about the impact on deliveries and waste collections.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Economic Development, Planning and Assets said:
“We recognise that the partial closure may cause some inconvenience but it’s essential to make sure we can complete this major investment in Bridgwater.
“We will make sure that pedestrians and shoppers, businesses and residents, will continue to have access throughout. We will also be installing extra signs to make people aware that Church Street remains open for business.”
Meanwhile, traders and residents in Bridgwater are being invited to join a drop-in session on 12 June to learn more about the work that is being delivered through the Celebration Mile.
The session, from 4pm-7pm at Bridgwater Community Hall, 11-13 Eastover, TA6 5AG, is open to everyone. The event gives people the chance to meet representatives from Somerset Council and contractors Taylor Woodrow, to ask questions and sign up for regular newsletter updates.
Celebration Mile is one of 11 projects being delivered as part of Bridgwater Town Deal which is bringing £23.2million of government investment through local projects, helping to boost the social, cultural and economic offerings in the town centre.
