Somerset Council has confirmed changes to waste and recycling collections over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Collections due on Good Friday (Friday 3 April) will instead take place on Saturday 4 April.

There will be no collections on Easter Monday (Monday 6 April). During the following week, all collections will take place one day later than usual, with Friday collections happening on Saturday 11 April.

All 16 Somerset recycling sites will also move to their spring and summer opening hours from Wednesday 1 April 2026.

From this date, sites will be open:

  • 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
  • 9am to 4pm at weekends

Opening days vary at some sites during the week, but all sites are open on Saturdays and Sundays. Residents are advised to check online for site opening days before visiting.

Recycling sites will remain open over the Easter weekend, from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

To help crews complete collections as quickly as possible, residents are asked to put their boxes, bags and bins out by 7am on collection day, or the night before.

As collections are a day later than usual, higher volumes of waste are expected. Squashing, crushing and flattening items can help create more space in containers and reduce the number of trips collection crews need to make.

Check the Somerset Council website for Recycling Site opening schedules and recycling and rubbish collection days.
