Essential repairs in Bishops Lydeard have been completed more than a week ahead of schedule, meaning an early reopening of Cothelstone Road.

A 24/7 road closure has been in place since late January to allow Somerset Council’s contractor, Karesa Construction, to repair and rebuild sections of a retaining wall along the road.

The work was due to be finished by the end of next week, but has been completed early and the road reopened from Thursday afternoon (21 March).

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Digital said:

“It’s always difficult for residents when you have to close a road and we only do it when we really have to.

“I’m delighted that the team as managed to get this work done so quickly and thank everyone for their patience.”

The works included repairs to an existing masonry wall and construction of a new retaining wall and drainage.
