Consulting on the Government’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) reforms is well underway. As is the national process for local areas to submit their SEND Reform Plans. The deadline for submissions is 19 June.

Colleagues across Children’s Services are therefore currently working hard to engage and consult with as many stakeholders in as many organisations as possible to hit that tight June deadline.

This includes consulting children and young people with SEND across the county. Because heir voice matters.

If you know a young person with SEND needs, please encourage them to share their thoughts and views using the SEND Reform Plan Survey, so it can address any issues, make better decisions, and work on improvements.

The survey deadline is Friday, 15 May 2026.

The Government’s SEND Reform Plan is a major overhaul designed to address rising costs, inconsistent support, and long delays in the system.

The reforms aim to shift the system from late, adversarial, and often expensive interventions to early, consistent, and local support.

The Government wants local councils to act as the central ‘convener’ of the local SEND system, collaborating with schools, health services, and parents to deliver a unified, financially sustainable system.
