Children aged 8–11 took to the stage to share their campaigns under the theme “Making a Difference in Our Community.”

On Monday, 16th June 2025, the Somerset Children’s Parliament brought together passionate and creative young minds from across the county for a day of inspiring presentations at Broughton House. Children aged 8–11 took to the stage to share their campaigns under the theme “Making a Difference in Our Community.”

All the speeches were written and presented by children who performed with enthusiasm and confidence and inspired the audience with stories of how they have learnt about and made a difference in and beyond their school communities.

Judges also stated that the high quality of work and presentations by all children, as well as their positivity, compassion and creative approaches to problem-solving and project developed as a result of significant research by many groups.

Everyone was thrilled to congratulate Ashcott Primary School and Holway Park Primary School, who were named this year’s winners for their outstanding campaigns: “Save Our Swifts!!” and “Care in the Community.” Their presentations stood out for their creativity, clarity, and community impact.

A special commendation also goes to our runners-up, Parkfield Primary and Milford Junior School, whose projects on school community improvement and intergenerational connection were equally inspiring.

While we celebrate the winners, we also want to recognise the professionalism, creativity, and hard work demonstrated by every participating school. Each child who took part should be incredibly proud of their contribution to making Somerset a better place.

Huge thanks to our sponsors and donors who generously supported the event too: British Solar Renewables, Carymoor Environmental Trust, Somerset Wildlife Trust, Literacy Tree, and Secret World Wildlife Rescue.  Thanks also to LIDL for the generous donation of fresh fruit.

The Somerset Children’s Parliament continues to be a shining example of how young people can lead the way in shaping a brighter future.
