Somerset Council is inviting anyone looking for more information about health and social care to come to a free event at Martock Parish Hall on Friday 22 May. This event is open to the public and will be from 10am to 3pm.
Attendees will be offered mini health checks courtesy of Symphony GP surgery as well as advice and information directly from Somerset Council Adult Social Care Practitioners and Social Workers. There will also be District Nurses from Somerset NHS Foundation Trust present on the day to help answer queries.
Other organisations attending to offer information and guidance are:
With more organisations to be confirmed closer to the date.
People in the Martock area who are on the waiting list for a Care Act Assessment or Carer’s Assessment are also being contacted and invited to attend.
Councillor Sarah Wakefield, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Adults Services, Housing and Homelessness, said:
This event is part of our strategy to provide information so that people can access the services and support they need earlier rather than later – often at a crisis point.
We recognise that a lot of people find accessing our services in adult social care an overwhelming topic and don’t know where to start. Our hope is that this event, and events like this in future, will provide people with the information they need about adult social care so they can start to think about and make choices about their social care needs now rather than later.
Natalie Fortt, Martock Parish Council’s Chief Executive, said:
Martock Parish Council is delighted to be hosting this multi-agency event, bringing together a wide range of organisations under one roof. This collaboration creates a valuable and exciting opportunity for residents to access information, advice, and support face to face, helping to strengthen connections within our community and promote overall wellbeing.
Hannah Bagatelas, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust’s neighbourhood development manager for South Somerset, said:
This event highlights the strength of partnership working across Somerset, bringing together a wide range of services to support residents with their health and social care needs. It is about making sure people feel informed, connected and able to access support when they need it.
There is no parking at the venue. However, a drop-off area is available directly outside, and public parking can be found at the nearby Moorlands Park car park.
For people looking for more information about adult social care who cannot attend on the day, there is a step-by-step guide on the council’s website. The council also held a series of webinars covering the most frequently asked questions about social care last year, which is available to watch on the council’s YouTube channel.
