There are some changes to Somerset’s Neurodevelopmental Pathway, including an updated Next Steps Form and changes to support after an ADHD diagnosis.
Updated Next Steps Form
The Next Steps Form has been updated following feedback from parent carers and professionals. We’ve streamlined the questions to make the form easier to complete and put more focus on hearing and understanding the child or young person’s voice.
If you’re starting a new Next Steps Form, always download the latest version from the Local Offer. Please don’t use a copy you’ve previously downloaded or saved, as it may be out of date.
We’ll continue to accept version 4, where a form is already being completed, until December 2026 .
Changes to support after an ADHD diagnosis
Changes have also been made to the Children and Young People’s Neurodevelopmental Partnership (CYPNP) support available after an ADHD diagnosis.
The Understanding ADHD course is now delivered online over two 2-hour sessions. This change reflects feedback from families about the time they needed to take away from work and other commitments to attend the course. Families of children and young people who also have an autism diagnosis can choose to attend an additional third session.
For ADHD diagnoses made or ratified from 1 September 2026, families need to attend sessions 1 and 2 before they can ask for an appointment with a prescriber to consider ADHD medication.
The changes to post-diagnostic support are helping to steadily reduce the time families wait to see a clinician.
