Somerset Council will be resurfacing roads in the Bridgwater area from next week.

Work on the Eastern Avenue junction with the A372, will be done across seven days from 13 to 20 October inclusive.

The road will be closed to vehicles for 24 hours as the scale and nature of the work mean it is not possible to reopen outside working hours or the weekend. While the site is closed there will be two-way temporary traffic signals on the A372. To reduce disruption these will be manually controlled during the day.

Work will also take place on the A372 Westonzoyland Road, starting on 17 October with completion due between 20 and 24 October. The road will be closed on weekday evenings only from 6.30pm-11.30pm.

Advanced signage will be put up in place before the road closure to advise people of the works due to take place. These will be supported by the larger electronic variable message signs. While the road is closed, there will be a signed diversion in place.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout for residents – there may be some restrictions or delays for vehicle access on occasion to some properties and residents should liaise with the site team on this.

Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Waste Services, Councillor Richard Wilkins said:

“The team will do their best to get the work completed as quickly and painlessly as possible – please do liaise with them if you are a resident and need to raise any issues around access.

“We are extremely grateful to residents for their support and understanding while this work is done.”
