Introduction

Suspensions are when specific parking bays are suspended from normal use, to allow vehicles to park for an agreed purpose. An example could be a large parking bay required to allow coaches to drop off, park, and pick up their passengers for a one-off event.

While we can serve Penalty Charge Notices to any vehicle parked in contravention of the suspension, we cannot remove any vehicles from the bay.

Dispensations are where a specific vehicle is allowed to park in a bay or on a yellow line for a defined period, without the need for a suspension. Dispensations will not normally be granted where there are loading restrictions or on clearways. An example could be a glazier’s van that needs to be parked on a single yellow line outside a property to install new windows.

Who can apply

Anyone who wants to park in an area where parking is controlled can apply for permission.

We must be satisfied there is a valid reason for the request, there are no reasonable alternatives for parking and it will not cause a safety or traffic issue.

There is a fee for these services, to cover our costs of approving the waiver and monitoring its use.

When and how to apply

Whenever possible you should apply at least 5 working days before the date you require either type of waiver to start. Applications received within 5 working days will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.

Phone our parking contractor on 01823 219035

To apply you must provide:

  • the reason for the suspension or dispensation
  • the location (property number and landmark)
  • type of parking restriction
  • number of suspensions or dispensations required
  • vehicle registrations for each suspension or dispensation
  • start and end date
  • if weekends are included or excluded

Please make sure you have a debit or credit card to make payment.

How much it costs

Dispensation and suspension fees

  • Daily £12 per bay (or equivalent)
  • Weekly £35 per bay (or equivalent)
  • Monthly £120 per bay (or equivalent)

A transferrable permit can be provided for monthly dispensations if more than one vehicle will occupy the space at different times during the month.

If you lose a Monthly Dispensation Permit

If a permit is lost, and had a Vehicle Registration Mark on it, please contact us for a replacement. There will be a £10 admin fee for a replacement permit.

Please note: where no Vehicle Registration Mark is included on the permit no refund will be given.

If you no longer need the waiver

If the waiver is cancelled before it starts a refund of the original fee will be issued less a £10 admin fee.

There will be no refund for daily or weekly waivers cancelled once they have started.

For monthly waivers cancelled after they have started, a pro-rata refund of any full weeks left to run on them, less a £10 admin fee, will be issued.
